PROGRAMS
HOUSE LEAGUES (H.L) – reported by Dean Porcellato
This HL is coordinated by our Pro Coach Dean and there is a cost for members to join this structured league. Our Singles & Doubles H.L ran for 20 weeks with 25 single players and 20 players for doubles league. A successful league and playoffs results (Pawan Singh won the singles league with Vik Punshi being the runner-up.) Our challenge this season was our limited number of substitutes players in our doubles league which resulted in players from other teams frequently subbing.
We did not run the doubles league to produce a winning team this year with its format. As we change partners and even last round, our Pro changed up partners and teams again in order to try to create good even match ups for everyone for the last block. The goal of doubles league is to have a structured league where players have scheduled weekly matches, giving them a chance to play with different players and hopefully have some good competitive matches for fun, social and exercise.
TOURNAMENTS – reported by Vik Punshi
A very successful season with 4 tournaments:
1st - Singles on June 3rd with 24 players. Edward Rusu won the title with Partab Mandhan being the runner-up
2nd - Mystery doubles (July 8th and 9th) with 22 players forming 11 teams. All players are chosen randomly in pairs. Mandhan & Toor won the finals playing against Faraaz & Renier
3rd - Doubles tournament (Aug 19th and 20th) with 2 categories: 26 players in advanced level and 10 intermediate level. Choosing the category was up to the player. This helped players find more equal-level matches. The ""outside team" (non-members) of Vlad & Vitality won the advanced category beating Faraz and Kalyan in the finals. In the intermediate category, Alex and Kim beat Dina & Kay in the finals after qualifying from four round-robin matches. This format of the tournament was highly praised by all players.
4th - Doubles tournament (Oct 14th & 15th) with 2 categories: 16 players in advanced level and 10 intermediate level. Choosing the category was up to the player. This helped players find more equal-level matches. Rahul & Arthur (non-member) won the advanced category beating Ibrahim and Stephen in the finals. In the intermediate category, Pawan and Olga (non-member) beat Paul and Mei Vong in the finals after qualifying from four round-robin matches. This format of the tournament was highly praised by all players.
WEEKLY ROUND ROBIN DOUBLES PLAY
This is our drop in 2hrs weekly (Tuesdays & Friday evenings) doubles play for members at any skill levels. This is a free cost to members and highly attended each week. Players are selected by our round robin coordinators Rosie & Mark (Executive directors) into double teams and matches are every 20-minute rotations with different players.
JUNIOR DEVELOPMENT - report by Tanya Porcellato
It was a very successful season turning new juniors onto the great sport of tennis. We had over 300 students from Springfield Public School participate in the school’s program that Tennis Everyone staff teach. For two full days, all the physical education classes play tennis at Springfield tennis club. Juniors all had fun and continued to play tennis in the gymnasium at their school. A flyer went home with each student promoting the membership and programs at Springfield Tennis Club.
We had over 57 juniors participate in the junior league, junior tennis lessons and 1/2-day morning camps. Many juniors participated in multiple programs and their skills developed a lot over the summer months.
We are looking forward to seeing our older juniors join the adult house leagues in the spring!
